Standing In Your Truth: Finding a Real Yes and a Real No Alexis Johnson, PhD
April 22 & 23, 2006 (full day) Santa Cruz, CA
For the toddler, saying no is an act of freedom – I don't want to do what you want me to do, I want you to acknowledge that I have the right to say no! How does an authentic "yes" develop – a yes to life, intimacy and pleasure and even to struggle?
How this dance is choreographed in early life sets the stage for real yeses and real no's throughout life.
In some area of life, most of us have difficulty saying a clear yes and a clear no. Consider your most intimate relationship: which is easier "Yes" or "No"? Is one on automatic and the other has to be found or fought for? Consider your relationship to an authority figure: which is easier "Yes" or "No"? Just considering that question alerts you to how you handle yourself in power relationships. What about peers, friendships, parents, children? Which is easier and when?
Learning to say an authentic "yes" aligns us with the flow of life. Learning to stand in an authentic "no" generates our personal autonomy and authority. Searching for the balance between the two fosters our personal growth.
In this workshop you will practice:
